The three approaches suit different priorities. Shaving is quick and painless but lasts days. Epilation pulls from the root, so regrowth is slower and finer, but the first few sessions are uncomfortable. IPL targets the follicle over a course of sessions for a longer-term reduction.
IPL only works where there is enough contrast between hair and skin — it is ineffective on very fair or grey hair, and unsuitable for the darkest skin tones. Check the device's own tone chart before buying rather than after.
Wet-and-dry models can be used in the shower, which most people find more comfortable for epilation.
