Choose a fridge around your food storage and kitchen layout. Check cabinet dimensions, door clearance and the delivery route before ordering.

A fridge needs to fit your food, your kitchen and the route into your home. Start with these three checks before comparing features.

How much capacity do I need?

Your shopping routine matters as well as household size. Compare how much fresh food and frozen food you store, whether you shop frequently or buy in bulk, and whether you need space for wide trays or tall containers. Your current fridge is a useful reference: identify what is too small, awkward or rarely used.

Compare usable storage on the same basis. Check separate fridge and freezer capacities when available, rather than choosing solely by a headline litre figure. A larger total capacity does not guarantee the shelf layout you need.

Measure the installation space

Record the opening's width, height and depth at its narrowest points.
Compare the appliance's dimensions, including doors and handles where specified.
Add the ventilation clearances stated in the model's installation manual.
Check that the doors open far enough to use the drawers and shelves.
Allow for nearby walls, counters and cupboard doors.

Do not assume every fridge needs the same clearance. Hinge design and installation requirements vary by model. Manufacturer guidance explains why door clearance needs to be checked as well as cabinet width.

Measure the delivery route too

Check the entrance, lift, stairs, corridors and turns between the delivery point and the kitchen. Send the dimensions and access details to the delivery team before ordering. If door removal might be necessary, confirm whether it is permitted for the model and who will perform it.

Features worth checking

Check the energy label, operating-temperature requirements, shelf adjustability and freezer arrangement. For water or ice dispensers, establish whether the model uses a refillable tank or needs a water connection. Use the model's stated requirements for the actual installation location.

Before you confirm the order

Confirm delivery access, handling charges, installation requirements, old-fridge removal and warranty coverage. Follow the manufacturer's instructions on positioning and starting the appliance after transport.
