Soundbars and home cinema systems from JBL, Hisense and Skyworth.
Match the bar to the television roughly in width — a 55-inch set suits a bar around 100cm. Wider is fine, much narrower looks wrong and does nothing for the sound stage.
Decide whether you need the subwoofer. For dialogue clarity and everyday viewing a two-channel bar is enough. For films and football, a wireless sub does the work no slim bar can, and it need not sit beside the television.
If your television supports eARC over HDMI you get the full-quality audio path and one remote controls both — check it before buying an optical-only bar.
Dolby Atmos bars fire sound upward off the ceiling, which works in a normal flat but not under a high majlis roof.
